Hi everyone! Welcome to week #4. If you have holidays you are celebrating I hope they have been and are going as well as they can. A few things to discuss this morning.

Spring Break

We are going to continue instruction, as I'm sure you know, through this week, even though this was originally scheduled as our spring break. You may receive some themed off topic assignments from some teachers, but many I'm sure will be continuing with normal instruction.

Regents Exams

The regents exams have officially been canceled in June. What this means for regent credit is still unclear. The board of regents and state administration are focused on graduating high school seniors needs currently as they try to decide how they want to handle those students who were in need of the additional regents credit to graduate. We have been instructed to continue preparing as though we were going to administer the exam with regents classes. The curriculum will not change. This is likely the best course of action, considering that regents are administered multiple times a year, we want to be prepared in the event that you will need to take the exam at one of those other times.

NYC School Closings

As you probably know there has been some confusion about how long NYC schools are going to remain closed. The mayor announced that he was closing the schools for the remainder of the year. The governor of NYS quickly announced during his press conference that the mayor did not have the authority to do so. Teachers do not have any more information than this. The truth is that the safest thing to do is to keep school closed, and that will more than likely be the case. This however has wide political and economic implications that any administration is likely to want to wait as long as possible to address.

Live Instruction

I would like to float the idea of scheduling some set times to have a live class over a google meet. I am also curious about how many of your teachers have attempted this. Any lesson I deliver would also be available for viewing at another time. Please post in the comments of this post on Google Classroom about how you feel about this idea, and if you have had it work in another class this year.

Check in at office hours if you have any questions about anything at all.
